Tips For Melt and Pour Soaps

Melt and pour soaps are easy to make. Here’s a few tips that can make them even better.

How to make M&P Soap Harder

There are a couple of ways to make your melt and pour bars harder.

1) Use bases that contain coconut oil, cocoa butter, lard, tallow,  lanolin, palm kernel oil and shea butter. If the base you’re using makes a bar that’s too soft for you, look for one that contains those types of oils.

2) Finely grate your M&P pieces before you melt them. As long as you didn’t add any softening oils, the finer your grind the base, the harder the final soap product will become.

How to Preserve your M&P Bars

First of all, be sure to wrap them tightly to make them last longer. You can also add some natural preservatives to your mixture. They include:

  • Grapefruit seed extract
  • Vitamin E
  • Benzoin
  • Castor Oil
  • Myrrh

A very conservative shelf life for your soaps is about 18 months.
